CAPE CORAL, Fla., - A Cape Coral man is accused of robbing an employee of Nice Guys at gunpoint.

It happened on August 15th around midnight. The United States Marshals arrested Kirtis Edward Jackman, 34, Thursday after obtaining a warrant.

Police say the employee was standing behind the restaurant taking a smoke break when Jackman approached him.

Police say Jackman pulled out a handgun and told the employee to get on the ground. Jackman then hit him on the back of the head a few times with the gun then demanded his phone before making a run for it.

It’s unclear if the employee was targeted.

A manager at Nice Guys tells 4 In Your Corner the incident happened off property and the employee no longer works at Nice Guys.

“We want to make sure that people feel safe going down there. There’s always several officers down in the South District and even  more specifically in that Cape Coral Parkway corridor,” said Master Corporal Phil Mullen with Cape Coral Police Department.

Mullen says there are steps you can always take to stay safe at night.

“Put yourself in a better spot. Be in a more public area. Be in a well lit area to try to make sure you’re minimizing your risk of being victimized.”

Jackman is being charged with robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
