A North Port man is accused of faking a cancer diagnosis and scamming people out of $85,000 in donations.
The Charlotte County Sheriff's office says Jason Depretis faked medical documents from several providers.
Investigators say he also claimed he had a severe form of cancer.
Family and friends who were concerned created several fundraising accounts to collect donations for his treatments.
Depretis is now charged with a scheme to defraud of $50,000 or more.
