LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A loggerhead turtle is swimming freely again in the Gulf of Mexico and hopefully able to dive down again.

Workers from the Clinic For the Rehabilitation of Wildlife released the sub-adult turtle Thursday at the South Seas Resort on Captiva.

The turtle was rescued on August 9th near Redfish Pass when a charter boat captain noticed it was struggling to dive.

The turtle was taken to CROW, where veterinarians realized it had air trapped inside its body cavity, causing the buoyancy issues.

The team was able to extract more than 4 liters of air, after which the turtle was easily able to dive again.
