Locals targeted by "jury duty" phone scam

Posted

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. --- The Collier County Sheriff's Office warning residents of a new scam involving suspicious phone calls about missing jury duty.

Residents who have received phone calls say scammers are asking them to mail money in fines for missing jury duty at the Collier County courthouse.

Deputies say these calls may appear legitimate because scammers may know personal information about you, the number they're calling from seems to be real and they may have plausible information.

CCSO are encouraging residents who receive calls to immediately hang up the phone, not provide any information to the caller, and do not send money.

You may report fraudulent phone calls to the Collier County Sheriff's Office's Call Before You "Pay" hotline at (239) 252-CALL (2255).
