NAPLES, Fla. — A local survivor of substance abuse is running a virtual marathon to raise awareness in his community.
Stan Schoenewald is an alum of Justin's Place Recovery Program, which is through the local non-profit, St. Matthew's House.
He's now an avid runner and wants to bring hope to others with his plans for the Boston Marathon.
Schoenewald has been training for months, but due to COVID-19, plans for the Boston Marathon have changed to virtual.
In this morning's segments, he shares his journey to becoming a long-distance runner and the different therapy services he uses at Restore in Naples.
Saturday morning, Sept. 12, he will be running 26.2 miles within the Kensington Golf & Country Club Community.
He hopes to help raise monetary donations for St. Matthew's House, as well as much-needed food donations to help re-stock their food pantry that continues to feed hungry families across SWFL.
