A Cape Coral chiropractor is giving back to the community by collecting backpacks and school supply donations for children in Lee County. Dr. Rick Means II grew up in Cape Coral and later started his practice, Record Health Chiropractic, on Pine island Road. He told 4 In  Your Corner he was determined to give back to the neighborhood he grew up in and get his office involved.

“This is my area. It’s where I grew up in, I wanna support it so it really wasn’t a very hard sell”, he said.

Dr. Means held school supply drives in the past. This year, he was determined to do more and reached out to local organization A Mom's Helping Hand, to make sure the bags would reach families with the most need. Kristen Peterson is the founder of A Mom;s Helping Hand and says Dr. Means calling for help made her eager to see how much more help the organization could offer families.

“This year when Dr. Means contacted us, we knew that we could do it big scale", she told Fox 4

Peterson founded A Mom;s Helping Hand to help single parent's like herself. While the purpose of her organization is meant to help single parents she wants to make sure the public knows that the school supply drive reaches anyone who needs assistance.

"We don't want to turn away anyone who might be in need."

The goal is to raise 200 backpacks filled with school supplies. Dr. Means is hoping his community will come together to and help him reach his goal of helping children all over Lee County.

“Some people legit, like don’t have it. Imagine being that kids walking into that school, you got nothing."

Donations are being accepted at the following locations until Friday July 13th:
