License Plate Reader Technology helps recover stolen vehicle driven by juveniles

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Fort Myers Police Department responded to a call of a possible stolen car.

The Kia was stolen in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard.

License Plate Reader Technology alerted the officers of the stolen vehicle and a nearby officer responded minuets later.

The Officer was able to find the vehicle at a nearby gas station on Martin Luther King Blvd.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupants fled the vehicle while the vehicle was still on drive.

The vehicle crashed into a chain link fence. With the help of a K9, Officer Jari Sanders was able to track the suspects to an apartment building.

Police arrested 4 juveniles, ages 10, 15, 15 and 17.

They were charged with Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting without Violence, Driving without a License and Violation of Probation.
