A school was forced to undergo lockdown after a shooting occurred at a nearby park, the Lee County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded to the shooting at Veterans Park shorty after 7p.m., Thursday.

Upon arrival, they discovered a man had been shot at one of the basketball courts, LCSO said in a report.

The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Although Veterans Park Academy for the Arts is nearby Veterans Park, deputies say that the shooting did not take place at the school, and that neither the victim nor the witness works at or attends the school.

Veterans Park Academy for the Arts was on temporary lock down but has since reopened, LCSO said.

Information of a possible shooting suspect has not been released.
