LEE COUNTY, Fla. — One person is dead after a shooting occurred on Sunday, March 19th. Officers attempted to render aid to one of the victims until he succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

According to a Fort Myers Police report, a man and woman were shot inside an apartment complex. The initial call was for a Breach of Peace and was later changed to an Assault.

Police say the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Portofino Cove Apartment Complex in the 4100 block of Ambrosia Court.

Investigators say the suspect was driving a black Nissan Titan truck. It was left running and unoccupied when FMPD showed up.

It was later established that the license plate was actually registered to a blue Ford truck with a different address. Officers were able to make contact with the owner of the plate and he confirmed it had been previously stolen.

One of the victims was transported to a local hospital as a trauma patient and told officers that the suspect entered the apartment armed with a rifle while inside with a male companion.

This male companion remains unidentified. He left before police arrived on the scene.
