FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — Thursday the Town of Fort Myers Beach and the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District provides an update on the search and rescue operations after Hurricane Ian.
In an afternoon press conference Chief Ron Martin of the Fire Control District discussed how search teams encountered 540 people that were either rescued, transported, treated, or did not survive Hurricane Ian.
Chief Murphy says today is about giving the 14 residents who died in the storm and their families the respect they deserve.
Mayor Ray Murphy says they honor those lost and they will never forget who was lost.
