Lee Co. Sheriff Carmine Marceno kicks off his 2020 election campaign. This is the first time he has run for office. He was appointed his current position by the governor after Mike Scott resigned.
His official campaign kicked off will at the Hyatt Hotel at Coconut Point.
Marceno says that he hopes to focus on two issues if he is elected. The first of the two issues would be "Safe Kids and Safe Schools" which focuses on the safety kids from the moment they leave their homes, during school and when they return home. The second focus would be opiates and the local epidemic.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno is the second declared candidate for sheriff. James Leavens also announced his candidacy, he is a retired major for the Lee County Sheriff's Office and served more than 30 years.
