FORT MYERS, Fla. — Lee County schools are investing more than $10 million to keep your kids safe.
First up: more than $7 million was to designated to upgrade school security cameras and their software.
For the School Board Chair, Gwynetta Gittens, the move is a no-brainer. "I taught high school for ten years and you can never have enough cameras," said Gittens, "You have something happens and you go back and look at the film and it's just out of the angle."
Next, the school board also approved the use of $3.5 million to make sure school fences and doors are doing their job, keeping kids in and intruders out. "Our director of technology, Tre Davis, is really on the cusp of all the things that we need to be doing to keep our kids safe from the outside all the way to the end," said Gittens.
Both measures got the stamp of approval.
Work to upgrade these systems will happen throughout the school year.
