LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A member of the School Board of Lee County has indicated that she will call for the superintendent's termination at the next school board meeting.
In a Superintendent Evaluation report filed last week, District 2's Melisa Giovannelli gave Superintendent Gregory Adkins a scathing review.
Her evaluation gave the superintendent an overall score of 1.42 out of 4, for an 'Unsatisfactory' grade. In her report, she accuses Adkins of "unacceptable" comments in meetings, leading "through fear and intimidation", poor communication, and creating an environment in which students do not feel safe.
In her summary, she says she will "present a motion to terminate the employment of Dr. Adkins" at the next Board Meeting, scheduled for May 7th.
Other reviews were more favorable.
Dr. Adkins' review of himself resulted in a 3.82 score, a result matched by board member Debbie Jordan, and exceeded by Chris Patricca.
Of the eight individual reports filed, four of those scored in the "highly effective" range, one in the "effective" range, two in the "needs improvement" range, and the one "unsatisfactory" from Giovannelli.
There have been other criticisms of Dr. Adkins. In February, Randy Scott, a former member of the Lee County School Board Finance Advisory Committee, sent a letter to Superintendent Gregory Adkins asking for his resignation.
In January, a letter sent by board member Cathleen Morgan was sent out stating, “The Superintendent no longer has the confidence of the board.” However, Morgan's current evaluation was one of the four "Highly effective" ratings.
