LEE COUNTY, Fla-- 4 In Your Corner was the first to tell you about debris piling up at a roundabout in Northeast Cape Coral.
Neighbors said their concerns started shortly after Hurricane Irma when they noticed a few small piles of debris off De Navarra Blvd. Several months later the piles had grown to include not only tree branches, but personal belongings and other trash.
On Monday, no one wanted to take responsibility for the mess. The city said it was county property, the county said it wasn't sure who owned it. But early Tuesday, crews were out cleaning up the debris.
It turns out the property belongs to Lee County, which makes them responsible for removing the trash.
Neighbors are thankful to no longer have to look at the eyesore and said they have a message for future offenders.
"They have a lot of places that you can go and drop off this legally please just think about the kids about the you, you know everything don't do this," said Cape Coral resident Yolanda Arroyo.
No dumping signs are posted. The Lee County Sheriff's Office said they are actively patrolling the area. They ask if you see someone illegally dumping to contact authorities immediately.
