LEE COUNTY, Fla - Season is starting to wind down in Southwest Florida, so that means fewer cars on the road. Some of you may be jumping for joy because you won’t have to deal with a lot of traffic.

Now Lee County officials are looking at ways to hopefully lessen the bumper to bumper traffic on roads during season to help your daily commute.

According to Lee County Commissioners, driving down colonial U.S. 41 and Daniels Parkway near I- 75 are the best chances for gridlock. At a recent workshop, commissioners discussed extending Corkscrew to Alico road to 4 lanes to help relieve traffic, this would cost about $50 Million in government funding.

But the plans don't stop there, the Florida Department of Transportation is also looking to help relieve some traffic during season. FDOT says they’re looking at a study to possibly widen U-75 from eight lanes to ten from Collier County to Manatee County

"That’s an important study that’s going to lead us in the future as we look at the future of this critical road in all of SWFL," said FDOT District One Communications Manager Zach Burch.

During the commissioners meeting they discussed if the widening from corkscrew is approved, their target date to finish it, would be 2023.
