CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla.  Drivers utilizing Burnt Store Road south of Punta Gorda can expect delays from lane closures over the next three weeks.

According to Charlotte County Public Works, contractors will be performing vegetation removal along a 4.4-mile stretch of road in advance of a road widening project.

The section affected is between Scham Road and Yacht Club Boulevard.

Beginning Monday, May 21 until Friday, June 8, sections of that road will be reduced to just one lane while crews work.  Warning signs and flaggers will be on scene to direct drivers, and drivers will experience slow traffic and delays.

This stretch comprises Phase 2 of a road widening project.  Phase 1 widened between Jones Loop Road and Scham Road.  Phase 3 widened a section from Yacht Club Boulevard south to the county line.

Drivers looking to bypass the lane closures can use Zemel Road or Notre Dame Boulevard to jump over to U.S. 41.
