FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A popular sign in Key West, which made national news over the weekend when it went missing, has been found in Fort Myers.

The Key West Express announced on their Facebook page Thursday that a couple arrived at their Fort Myers dock with the sign, wanting to return it to Key West.

The sign, which reads "Welcome to Key West" on one side, and "Come Back Soon" on the other, had gone missing last month, presumably due to Hurricane Irma.  It had been replaced with a temporary sign while the Rotary Club asked for help finding the original.

According to Key West Express, the mystery couple showed up at their docks Thursday morning wanting to transport a "package" to the island.  It turned out to be the sign, which was sent on the ferry to be returned to the Rotary Club.

It's unclear how the sign found its way to Fort Myers.

The Key West Express resumed regular trips between Fort Myers Beach and Key West last week.
