Juvenile sentenced to 13 years for shooting death

HENDRY COUNTY, Fla. — A 17-year-old was sentenced to 13 years for his role in a shooting death.

He shot David Zavala, 19, on July 3, 2019 while Zavala was attempting to purchase narcotics.

The teen was being held in Hernando County at Youth Opportunity Brooksville Academy, a program for Juvenile Offenders. He was taken into custody by Hernando deputies and transported back to Hendry County in March.

The teen is facing charges of Homicide and Armed Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.

A 16-year-old also faces charges in this case and is still awaiting trial.
