UPDATE 2/23/2021:

As of Feb. 23, Tyler Williams is no longer employed with the Fort Myers Police Department.

The ongoing Internal Affairs Investigation has been officially closed.

Officer Tyler Williams has been dismissed of charges of failing to protect a child by not contacting the Department of Children and Families (DCF) during a traffic stop in Jan.

Narcotics were found in the vehicle in which the mother and child were passengers. The child passed away in an unrelated incident about a month later. Tyler argued there were no signs of abuse or neglect, as the child appeared clean and in good health during the traffic stop.

The Fort Myers Police Department says Officer Tyler Williams will now be on paid administrative leave pending the Internal Affairs Investigation outcome.
