LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- Retired Lee County Major Jim Leavens says he's running for sheriff.
His official campaign launch will be April 15 at Millennial Brewing Company in Fort Myers.
in a statement, Leavens said: "My entire professional career in law enforcement has been here in Lee County, Florida. For over three decades, I've poured my life into understanding the agency and looking for opportunities to make it greater. Injecting myself in nearly every position and department in the agency has given me a unique insight into areas that need serious improvement."
Leavens is expected to face current Sheriff Carmine Marceno in the 2020 election. Marceno was appointed to the position last year by retiring Sheriff Mike Scott.
