Injuries reported in rollover on I-75 in Punta Gorda

UPDATE (2 PM) -- Troopers say three people from Lee County were ejected and injured in a work van rollover in Punta Gorda Monday morning.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the van was riding northbound in the center lane near mile marker 158 when the driver made an improper lane change and collided with the left rear side of a truck in the right lane.

The collision caused the van to roll over onto the shoulder and into the trees.

All three occupants of the van were ejected onto the road shoulder.

The driver, 56-year-old Victor Woodward of Cape Coral was seriously injured. 26-year-old passenger Quajay Williams of Fort Myers was also seriously injured. 18-year-old passenger Jaheim Douse of Cape Coral sustained minor injury.

All three were taken to Lee Memorial for treatment.

Woodward will be charged with improper lane change. He and Williams will both be charged with failure to wear seat belt.

The driver of the truck was uninjured.

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- Troopers report an injury in a severe van rollover on Interstate 75 in Charlotte County Monday morning.

It happened in the northbound lanes at mile marker 158 near the Tuckers Grade exit just before 8 a.m.

According to photos from Florida Highway Patrol, the van ended up in saw palmetto after rolling over along the highway shoulder and over a wire fence.

No word yet on the severity of the injury.

No roadblock was reported at the scene.

Troopers remind drivers to buckle up, put the phone down, and focus on driving.
