NAPLES, Fla. — Impacting thousands of women, I Support The Girls Southwest Florida affiliate director Christina Shutter says three years ago after Hurricane Irma. She recognized an unmet need in the community for feminine hygiene products.
"For women who were experiencing sudden homelessness due to a natural disaster. Since then, in the last three years, we've been able to collect and distribute over 40,000 menstrual hygiene products and bras to women here in between collier and lee counties," said Christina Shutter.
After receiving a call from Kali, a feminine hygiene product sales company who was going out of business, I Support The Girlsstepped up to the plate.
"So we started putting our brains together with a lot of teamwork and were able to get all of the products reduced from the east coast of Florida and back to Naples. Due to this recent large donation to I Support The Girls, we now have over 300,000 products that we're going to be able to provide to organizations here locally," said Shutter,
Those organizations include Our Daily Bread Food Pantry and PACE Center for girls. I Support The Girls is also helping victims of human trafficking through an organization called Path 2 Freedom.
"It's really important for these girls to see that there are people out there that truly do care and there's always a need for stuff like this. I think it's important for the girls to know there is a community that cares about them and will help them in their healing," said Ana Stevenson, President and Founder of Path 2 Freedom.
Shutter says she wants people to realize that feminine products are a necessity for all women.
These are things that women need for their health, these are things that women should not have to choose between having, or feeding their children, or their abilities to take care of their families," said Shutter.
