Hundreds attend funeral service for Khyler Edman

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.—A Southwest Florida teenager has been laid to rest.

Khyler Edman died trying to protect his little sister when a man broke into their home in Port Charlotte last week.

His funeral service was held at First Alliance Church in Port Charlotte on Thursday.

There was an outpouring of support for Khyler and his family. Hundreds of people came out to pay their respects for 15-year-old who is being hailed a hero.

His death had a real impact on the community.

In his obituary, the family said used words like caring, kind and loving to describe Khyler. He was also known for his unselfishness and always putting others first.

Deputies said Khyler was stabbed and killed when defending his 5-year-old sister from an intruder.

More than 300 people gathered together at the church to remember him.

Students and community members also wore green because that was his favorite color.

The group, Patriot Riders of America escorted his family from the church to the cemetery where he was laid to rest.

It was a very sad and emotional day for Khyler’s family and this community.
