SAN CARLOS PARK, Fla. -- A Lee County couple has no place to live, just days before Easter, after a fire damaged their home early Friday morning.
The fire broke out just before 1 a.m. on Allentown Road in San Carlos Park.
Fire crews were able to save the structure of the home, however there’s a lot of damage inside.
The fire started in the kitchen, reaching the attic and causing the ceiling to collapse. The owners say they had just got home from work and smelled smoke.
Firefighters were able to find the owner's dog inside. They hosed her down, gave her oxygen and the dog was rushed to the vet.
"They came right in, they looked for her. They told me I shouldn't be in the house," said a resident. "They got me out of the house safely first. And then they went into the house and found my dog and brought her out. It took 3 of them to resuscitate her on the ground."
