BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. -- One person was injured and several pets are missing after a structure fire at a home in Bonita Springs Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out just before 11 a.m. on Meadowlark Lane, just off Bonita Beach Road.
According to Greg DeWitt, Assistant Chief with Bonita Springs Fire Department, three people were home at the time, and one had minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Three dogs were rescued from the home, but one dog and two cats are unaccounted for.
DeWitt warns against going back into houses that are on fire. "If you're out of the house, don't go back in. Nothing's worth going back in. The resident went back in to try and save the dogs and cats. We just don't want anybody injured."
Crews were able to respond to the scene in about one minute, due to Station 22 being located about a block away. The fire was under control in about five minutes, but is likely a total loss.
The State Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
