Hot car law proposal aimed to protect children

State Representative Emily Slosberg of Boca Raton is proposing a law change, making it illegal to leave a child in a car alone for any period of time.

Currently, it's legal for people in the state of Florida to leave kids in the car for up to 15 minutes without facing any criminal charges.

"I don't see how somebody could defend leaving a child in a car for 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or any amount of minutes," says Slosberg.

Every year, 911 gets countless calls about kids left or locked inside cars.

Slosberg believes this bill will become a law by next year.
