Helping your children deal with test stress

Posted

CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Students in school can take a lot of tests during a school year, and that can cause high levels on stress and anxiety.

We sat down with Angela Lopez, a psychotherapist and licensed clinical social worker at the David Lawrence Center on how parents can help their children handle the stress, and how children can cope with it as well.

Lopez says some symptoms of test stress are nausea, stomach problems, headaches, shortness of breath and heart palpitations.

If parents notice their kids under stress, they can reassure their kids that regardless of the outcome of the test, they still love them and are proud of them.

If symptoms continue or get worse, it's suggested parents get their kids additional help like an evaluation or reassessment.
