CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- The mother of an 8-year-old girl who was killed by a hit and run driver made an emotional appearance at the scene of her daughter's memorial Tuesday.
8-year-old Layla Aiken was killed in Cape Coral Monday after being hit by a truck while waiting for the bus with her brothers. The driver fled the scene.
Tuesday, Layla's mother visited the memorial that has been placed at the intersection when the tragedy happened.
"Keep praying for our family, because we're hurting," she said. "I was in the ambulance with her on the way to the hospital. We heard and saw everything."
Police announced Tuesday that they've located the vehicle they believe was involved in the crash, and that a person of interest has developed in the case.
