PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Grace Community School unexpectedly closed their Port Charlotte location Tuesday morning without giving prior notice.
Parents of children at found a sign when they brought their kids to daycare explaining the school is closed for an undetermined amount of time and may re-open “when staff can meet Grace Community School standards.”
Single parents said it’s especially hard to find help when you’re the sole provider.
“I have a full-time job, so what am I supposed to tell my employer?” asked one parent.
Brittany Lorino told me now she has to find a new school for her one-year-old and four-year-old.
“It’s rough trying to put two kids in daycare in the middle of the year,” she said. “That's rough on a parent who has a full-time job.”
Fox 4 contacted the school and while officials wouldn’t go into detail about the standards not met which caused the closing, parents said most of the school staff is out of work.
“My heart goes out to them, because they found out when we found out. I couldn’t imagine walking into a job that suddenly shut down,” said Lorino.
Officials from Grace Community School said they will issue refunds to parents who’ve already paid for childcare.
