FORT MYERS, Fla.-- The Jim Cook Classic is an annual golf tournament that helps raise proceeds for someone in Southwest Florida.

On Saturday, golfers will gather together for the event to help one little girl battling leukemia. Over the course of seventeen years, the event has helped people dealing with a variety of difficult situations.

“Sometimes it has been for hurricane relief other times it’s been for different illnesses,” said event coordinator Susan Cook.

This year golfers will get together at the Eagle Ridge Golf Club for one special little girl in Fort Myers named Addisyn Heinz. At just two years old— Addy was diagnosed with leukemia— something her mom said hasn’t slowed her down one bit.

“She’s been so fearless and goofy and she just goes with it," said Joy Heinz.

The event isn’t just for golfers either. The fun continues with an after party at Nevermind Eatery in Cape Coral around 2:00 p.m. where they have other fundraiser opportunities lined up.

“Raffle tickets, 50/50 tickets, other donation opportunities and it’s just a great day for the golfers and everyone involved," said Cook.

The tournament was supposed to happen in April. Despite the pandemic pushing things back a little— Susan said everyone's thoughts have been focused on helping Addy and her family.

“When we do it for a family with a child, there is nothing like it," said Susuan. "The families always get involved in their own event and this year we are working for Addy and the Heinz family.”
