FORT MYERS, Fla. -- A gas leak in Fort Myers forced some businesses to close and backed up traffic for hours. Fort Myers Fire Department tells Fox 4 an excavator hit a gas line on Pine Street off of Palm Beach Boulevard.
Repair crews shut off the gas in the area, which impacted nearby businesses.
“Since we are a family business we depend on profit to keep us going, and since we had to close for the day, it's usually kind of slow on these days, so we would depend on the later times, where there was a rush at the evening," said Niki Su, Fortune Cookie Chinese Restaurant.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, just after 4pm all lanes opened up on Palm Beach Boulevard except one eastbound lane as crews were repairing the damage.
