Fossil bone found during City's extension project, donated to Cape Coral Historical Museum

CAPE CORAL, Fla. ---- The City of Cape Coral will donate a fossil bone to the Cape Coral Historical Museum during a reception on Thursday. 

The event is hosted by the Cape Coral Historical Society and will take place at the Museum located at 544 Cultural Park Boulevard at 10 a.m. The reception is open to the public. 

The fossil bone belonging to a mammoth or mastodon which was discovered during the City's North 2 utility extension project. The bone was found approximately 17 feet underground. 

A field assessment of the discovery estimates that the bone could be 12,000 to 2.5 million years old.
