Fort Myers woman fears for her life after being stalked online

A Fort Myers woman says she's been harassed for more than a year, by someone she met through a social networking site.

Katie Correia joined the site Live.Me so she could share videos with others and expand her social network.

"It was just a fun little to make friends and show off your adventures, show off each others adventures, but there are creeps that are also on the broadcast," said Correia.

One of those creeps began harassing her on the site. She had a moderator kick him off, but he came back under another user name, and a much nastier tone.

"He would find me and my mother, saying he would rape us, things like that, then he said he would rape my manager which he found her name," said Correia.

Katie closed her Instagram and Facebook accounts, but it was too late.   The stalker set up an account posing as her father, and was even threatening her employer.

"He found my job even though I blocked it all on Facebook and everything I made was private."

Katie filed a complaint with the sheriffs office, and moved in with one of her friends, but she still lives in fear.

"I'm thinking about it everyday, thinking he could possibly show up."

Katie says because she doesn't have a street address for her cyberstalker, the sheriff's office isn't sure it can enforce the restraining order.

One lesson she learned from the experience is that even the smallest bit of personal information that you make public on line could attract a cyber stalker.
