COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — A former Save-A-Lot store manager was sentenced to three years in prison for Scheme to Defraud in Collier County.

Carol Passaro, 62, took money from the daily cashier drawers and moved it to a secure safe that only she had access to between April 2008 to August 2014.

Passaro would adjust the nightly cash reports to account for money she moved from one safe to another.

When the defendant transferred to a different store, the new manager discovered $275,132 missing from the safe.

Passaro confessed to stealing all of the missing money to fund her gambling and drug addiction.

Her sentence will be followed by one year of community control and eight years of probation.

She has also been ordered to pay restitution.
