FORT MYERS, Fla. --- A Florida Gulf Coast University cheerleader is turning pro after being named a Miami Dolphins cheerleader.
Zahra Fayad, a senior captain this past season for FGCU, becomes the first FGCU athlete to make it to the NFL.
According to Eagle News, Fayad beat out 300 other participants to become one of the 15 newcomers and 20 veterans to make the final cut for the 2018-19 squad.
Before becoming a FGCU cheerleader, Fayad competed in gymnastics until high school which she used to her advantage when trying out for the Dolphins.
She finished her degree at FGCU in Health Science and was recently offered a pharmacy internship in LaBelle.
Fayad is gearing up to head to Miami to embark on her new journey as a 2018-19 Miami Dolphins cheerleader and says she hopes this opportunity will open more doors.
