LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- The former band director at Estero High School has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.

36-year-old Warren Baxter will spend eight years in federal prison and has been ordered to turn over his computer, hard drive, and cellphone.

According to the United States Attorney, Baxter was investigated in June 2018 after a report he asked a 17-year-old boy for nude photos. During the investigation, Baxter admitted he had images of underage girls on his phone.

A search of his devices found more than 700 videos and 900 images of minors engaging in sexual activity.

He resigned as band director in July 2018, and was indicted in April 2019. He pleaded guilty in June 2019.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Innocent Images Task Force, with assistance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
