LEE COUNTY, Fla.-- Florida Power and Light says despite a previous announcement, your energy bill will not go up because of Hurricane Irma.
In fact, they say your bill will actually go down by roughly $3 a month. The company made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday, saying the decrease is because of the new federal tax bill.
Back in October, FPL announced they needed to get more than $1 billion from customers to pay for Hurricane Irma damage. But again, those charges will not go into effect.
Thanks to federal tax savings, your rates won’t go up to pay for Hurricane Irma restoration. We hope to use these tax savings to keep your rates low and stable for years to come. pic.twitter.com/D6P3kFhIuN
