FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Sunny skies are blanketing Southwest Florida Tuesday.  But while many neighborhoods are drying out, the Island Park community remains largely under water.

The San Carlos Park Fire Department is conducting Day 3 of evacuation efforts along Island Park Drive on Tuesday.

40 evacuations were performed Sunday, and 168 on Monday.  By noon Tuesday, 2 additional evacuations have been made. Approximately 50 pets have also been evacuated from homes in the area.

Crews report that Island Park Road is still impassable by anything smaller than a large truck.  Two cars attempted to drive through the area Tuesday but instead drifted off the roadway.

Residents wishing to voluntarily evacuate and needing assistance in doing so should call Station 52 at 489-3114. Those in need of emergency assistance should, as always, call 911. Residents are advised to only call 911 for emergencies.

Residents are also advised to stay out of flood water as it contains bacteria, petroleum, and waste products.

Lee County is maintaining a Current Road Conditions map online, providing information on which roads are still flooded.
