Fleeing vehicle overturns in Lehigh Acres, killing passenger

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. -- Florida Highway Patrol says charges could be filed after a fleeing vehicle crashed, killing a passenger Thursday night.

The crash happened just before 7:30 P.M. on Joel Boulevard, near 13th Street in Lehigh Acres.

Troopers say 24-year-old Bobby Hodges of Lehigh Acres was driving an SUV with an 18-year-old female passenger along 10th Street East when a Lee County deputy attempted to stop them for a tag violation.

Hodges did not stop for the deputy and fled northbound on Joel Boulevard at high speed.  The deputy did not pursue the SUV.

A short time later, Troopers say Hodges lost control of the SUV while passing another vehicle.  The car flipped several times, ejecting the passenger.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her name has not been released by troopers yet.
