LEE COUNTY, Fla.-- Half a dozen gas pump skimmers were found between two gas stations, one in Lehigh Acres and another in Punta Gorda.
In Lehigh Acres, three skimmers were found at a 7-Eleven at 501 Sunshine Boulevard. They were discovered by an employee from a gas company.
At least one person reported fraudulent charges on their credit card.
In Punta Gorda, two skimmers were found at the Mobil-Circle K gas station at 3949 Tamiami Trail. The skimmers were found by pump technicians during a routine maintenance check.
Charlotte County recently passed a gas pump ordinance. By October 14th, 2018 all gas pumps in the county will need a secondary lock, to prevent skimmers.
In both of these cases, the skimmers were removed and investigations opened.
