Fishing tournament raises funds for sick kids

The 14th Annual Calusa Blueway Kayak Fishing tournament kicks off Saturday, November 11th at the Old Fish House Marina in Matlacha and proceeds go to the Candlelighters of Southwest Florida.

The mission of Candlelighters of Southwest Florida is to provide support, education and assistance to the families of children with cancer and blood disorders.

The tournament begins at safe light  on Saturday and is $65 per angler. The first place winner will receive $1,000 cash, second place receives $500 cash and third place receives $250.

Friday is the last day to register. You can go to Pointybel Brewing Company at 1620 San Carlos Boulevard #4 in Fort Myers from 6 to 7 Friday night. A mandatory captain's meeting follows from 7 to 7:30 p.m. You can also register online.

The tournament takes place at the Old Fish House Marina. It's located at 4530 Pine Island Road NW in Matlacha. All fishing must be done from a non-motorized paddle craft and take place in Lee County waterways.
