First Somalian to hold U.S. office to visit Southwest Florida

Posted

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Representative Ilhan Omar’s story is one of tragedy and triumph.  That story took her from a war-torn region in Somalia, to a refugee camp, and now the Minnesota state House of Representatives.

Now the first Somalian-American elected to office in the United States is headed to Southwest Florida.

She will be the keynote speaker at the ANSWFL Gala on Saturday night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Dr. Peter Ndiang'ui, president of the African Network of Southwest Florida, visited the Fox 4 studio Thursday to talk about why the organization is bringing the representative to Fort Myers.
