Father and son charged with grand theft for stealing safe from Golden Gate Estates home

Posted

A Golden Gate Estates man said he was shocked when he came home to find his safe missing, along with just about everything of value he owned.

"They took about $9,000 is cash, about $25,000 in jewelry, all of our our important papers," said the victim, who did not want to be identified.

Fortunately, he caught the theft on home surveillance video, showing two men carrying the safe between them out the door. The owner can't believe they even knew it was there.

"The safe was camouflaged," he said. "It was covered with a table cloth, and I don't let anybody know that I have that."

The surveillance video led to the arrest of James Edward Lanham, 41, and his son Harold Lanham, 22, both of Golden Gate Estates.

The victim said deputies found the safe in a canal, and he was so far able to recover about $4,000.
