MARCO ISLAND, Fla. -- A fatal crash shut down a Marco Island road for several hours Thursday morning and caused electrical and water outages.
The crash was reported around 2:30 a.m. on San Marco Road between Floral Street and Sunset Street.
According to Marco Island Police, the crash was a single-vehicle crash into utility infrastructure and a house.
Florida highway Patrol says the car was headed eastbound on San Marco when it veered across the westbound lanes and onto the north shoulder, hitting a utility pole and overturning.
The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Anthony Britt of Marco Island, died in the crash.
Marco Island Police and Florida Highway Patrol are on scene investigating.
Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
