Fatal crash involving bicyclist in Iona

FORT MYERS, Fla. — UPDATE 5 P.M.:

An 85-year-old man from Fort Myers was driving east on McGregor Blvd. through a curve in the road when a man on a bicycle attempted to cross all lanes.

The front of the car hit the bicyclist, who came to rest in the grass shoulder and sidewalk area south of McGregor Blvd.

The 63-year-old bicyclist, from Fort Myers, was transported to Healthpark Medical Center and later pronounced deceased. Reports say he was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the sedan reported no injuries.


Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving a bicyclist in Iona.

At about 1:55 p.m., a bicyclist was hit near McGregor Blvd. and Old McGregor Blvd.

According to FHP, the bicyclist is deceased.

Drivers are asked to please avoid the area and seek an alternate route.

The crash remains under investigation.
