CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. -- An intersection on State Road 31 east of Punta Gorda is closed due to a crash with fatalities, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
It's at the intersection of S.R. 31 and Bermont Road (County Road 74).
Florida Highway Patrol reports two fatalities in the crash, which involved a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle.
Troopers say a Kia Soul with two occupants was headed east on Bermont Road and entered the intersection into the path of a southbound tractor trailer, which had the right of way. The truck hit the left side of the car and sent it into a water-filled ditch.
Both James Henry Garnett and Daisy Loveless Garnett were pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver was uninjured.
