NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. — Keli Machado, the front seat passenger in a North Fort Myers crash on Tamiami Trail last week has died. She sustained spinal injuries and broken limbs from the crash. She died at the hospital Friday morning. Her husband Jesus died at the scene of the crash Saturday.

Jesus’s sister Rita Noda said she’s trying to find the words to tell her niece and nephews they have to grow up without their parents.

“We don’t even know how we’re going to break the news to them that it’s not only one parent, but both,” she said.

Now the family said they have reason to believe this was a hit and run crash. Jesus and Keli’s sons who were the only ones wearing seatbelts and sustained minor injuries. according to the report, said they saw another car coming towards them before they flipped over. Jesus’s dad Alain Hernandez said if it is a hit and run, the person who did this needs to be held responsible.

“That’s my son. That’s what I need justice,” he said.

The family said they’re hoping the traffic camera on Tara Boulevard captured the crash. So, they’re asking Florida Highway Patrol to share it with them.

“Release the footage. We want to see the footage,” said Noda.

FHP hasn’t responded to FOX 4's requests for comment on the cause of this crash, but according to an updated report released Saturday morning, their investigation is ongoing. Noda said they won’t give up until get answers.

“My family will not be at ease and will not be at peace until we know what happened. Because my brother was a safe driver and wouldn’t do anything to put his family in danger,” she said.

The family has reached out to an attorney to acquire footage from those traffic cameras.

FHP urges anyone who has seen or heard anything to contact them or Southwest Florida Crimestoppers.
