IMMOKALEE, Fla., -- The Collier County Sheriff's Office is investigating the homicide of Juan Herrera, 19, from Saturday night. As family and friends leave candles and flowers, his sisters say they don't understand why anyone would take him away.

“To see my brother on the floor like that. I just wanted to go and shake him, wake him up," said Carmela, Herrera's sister.

Carmela says she was at a quinceañera when she heard the news. She says her brother was shot to death and when she arrived to the scene, just down the street from his home, his body was laying on the ground covered.

“Soon as I came, I stayed the whole time. I was the last one to leave.”

Herrera's 12-year-old sister, Gigi, says her brother loved his music and tried to use it to provide a better life for his family.

"He loved to sing," said Gigi. “He wanted to inspire people and inspire my mom.”

They say his goal was to get his mom out of the neighborhood, with dreams of one day buying her a mansion. But now, Carmela says Herrera wanted one message to tell the world:

“Life’s a struggle but you have to keep going no matter what."

The family tells Fox 4 they don't know who his killer is. Investigators have not confirmed how Herrera was killed. They say it is an ongoing investigation and have not made an arrest.
