LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Lehigh Acres man was killed while working on the side of the road in Bonita Springs Wednesday.

It happened shortly before 4 p.m. on South Tamiami Trail just south of Lime Tree Park Drive.

Florida Highway Patrol says 51-year-old Eduardo Altamar and 36-year-old Angel Montes were on the grass shoulder of the road, installing traffic signs.

That’s when the driver of a pickup truck lost control and drove onto the shoulder, hitting both men before continuing to hit a parked van and a light pole.

Altamar was killed at the scene.  Montes suffered minor injuries.

The driver, 58-year-old Ronald Menard of Fort Myers, now faces charges of DUI Manslaughter,Vehicular Homicide, and Careless Driving.
