CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Police say the driver who hit a Cape Coral teen while he was walking to school on Monday will not be cited.
According to a Cape Coral Police report, 15-year-old Joseph Zimmer was walking to Mariner High School at 5:34 a.m. Monday. Investigators say he was using the crosswalk across Burnt Store Road at NW 9th
Terrace when he was struck by a side mirror on a southbound SUV.
The driver told police he noticed the boy at the last second and swerved in an attempt to avoid him.
Zimmer did not recall the incident and was not sure what happened.
Police say the driver was found to be at fault for the collision, but won't be cited because it is very dark where the crash happened.
It says there's also no traffic signal for the pedestrian or cars.
